The Grinch Christmas Party

This Christmas party is perfect for getting kids excited about serving others in small ways during the holidays. Everything flows together from the invite to the decor.

I decided that the theme for our church Christmas party would be “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” because I love how his heart grew three sizes. My committee wanted to focus on serving others.

Bingo card with grinch on it and ways to serve people

To start it out my friend made the cutest bingo cards that were on the back of the invitation and we passed out to the kiddos. We told them there would be a prize for a bingo and a bigger prize for blackout.

I had an awesome committee and each person took over a responsibility. (Food, decorations and invitations.) My family cuts down a fresh tree every year for our own Christmas tree so my husband and I picked a really big one for the center piece. It was actually bigger than we thought! It took four men to haul it to the trailer. Then we still had to cut it in half and piece it back together. My friend used table cloths from the dollar store as garland and tissue balls and wreaths to decorate it. Then she wrapped empty boxes for underneath. I don’t have a picture of it but she placed a wooden cradle with a baby doll wrapped in a white blanket to represent Jesus.

The tables were placed in a star pattern coming out from the tree with circle ones mixed in for extra seating. The two tables with the red and white striped cloths were the food tables. Two lines on each table for quick serving.

Green placemats were set at each place setting with a clear cup and either a red or green napkin inside. In each cup we also put a striped straw and plastic silverware. We hoped this would keep kiddos from touching all the plasticware! It also served as decoration.

My friend made cute two liter soda bottle labels to carry out the theme.

Doors decorated like presents with bows

We used wrapping paper and table cloths for decorating both sides of the doors. My friend painted wood blocks and drilled a hole in them to hold the candy canes.

Kid sitting on Santa's lap and a small stuffed dog

We had Santa come at the beginning of the party in a different room so that those who didn’t want to visit Santa wouldn’t be bothered. My sister-in-law’s dad actually dressed up for us. We passed out little dogs to remind them of Max from the movie. We found this cute quote from Heidi at Happiness is Homemade. You can find that link here.

Cups of pudding with Grinch sign behind them

We had who pudding by just putting whip cream on pudding cups. The sign read “Who Pudding”. I also made this cute table cloth with some fabric I found. I just sewed an edging on it.

For dessert we had sugar cookies with hearts made with frosting.
